Witney Wangers was launched on 1st June and is a competition that runs until October in selected shops in Witney, Oxford. Shops included in the Bra Bank scheme are Papillon, Eve, Renaissance, Estilo, Sassi, Clanfield Tavern, Beautiful Creases and Pirate Fitness.
They each have a Bra Bank within their store and the public are encouraged to bring old bras for recycling, and the company we recycle the bras with give us money per tonne for the bras, which gets given to ABC, Against Breast Cancer. The shop that collects the most bras will raise the most funds for ABC and will win a prize when we finish the competition in the first week of October, when Witney holds its Think Pink week.
Dig out all your old bras that are tucked away in the back of your drawers, whether they’re too small, too big, out of shape, grey, faded, slightly damaged, just bring them to one of the shops or send anonymously to 45 Broadmarsh Lane, Freeland, Oxford, Ox29 8QP if you don’t want to visit a store to donate your unwanted bras.
These Bra Banks are not to be used for rubbish!
UPDATE! 6.9.11.
So far we’ve raised about £100 for Against Breast Cancer and collected approximately 2000 bras since June! This has mainly been through facebooking people and asking them to donate to the shops, but I myself have collected over 8 bags so far, and that amounts to about 1000 bras and half of the money. The shops have all collected at least one bag of bras, some have done two and the bra shop (they have a slight advantage!) have collected 4 bags so far! The competition closes on the 1st October when we announce which shop has collected the most bras and therefore collected the most money for the charity, so keep bringing your bras to Witney or send them to Witney Wangers to the address above.
